Hyang L. Kim
Born in South Korea
Lives and works in Bellevue, WA
I studied art in South Korea and after moving to Washington, took courses at Pratt Art Center and at Cornish College of Art, starting my path as an artist here.
In 2002, I received Grants for Artist Projects (GAP) from Artist Trust and was chosen for the New American Painting Juried Exhibition. These fortunate achievements gave me the motivation and the energy to pursue even harder.
In the beginning, I was inspired by the great Magritte and Castillo but in the process of finding my own passions, I went back to my first love which is nature. The mesmerizing Lake Washington, the Puget Sound and all the body of water of the beautiful state fills my soul. Through the reflections of the trees, forest, and insects, I want to reveal my inner world combining realistic and abstract images capturing the harmony between imagination and the issues underlying within man and nature.
